Genesis Owusu – DEATH CULT ZOMBIE
Australian artist Genesis Owusu releases “DEATH CULT ZOMBIE”, a confrontational track that addresses blind allegiance and political manipulation. Produced, mixed, and engineered by Dann Hume, the song takes aim at dogmatic thinking and the way people cling to comfortable delusions rather than face uncomfortable truths.
Owusu describes the concept: “For most people, the shaking up of what they consider to be true is too scary and inconvenient. Once you’ve picked your truth, you live by it staunchly despite whatever pesky ‘facts’ and ‘logic’ get in the way. Pride won’t let you be wrong, fear won’t let you be free, dogma won’t let you be aware. The delusion is more comfortable.”
The track tackles toxic masculinity, online radicalization, and political extremism with direct lyrical attacks. Owusu references figures like Andrew Tate and addresses issues from white supremacy to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. “No culture war when there’s bombing at your feet,” he states. “It’s not left and right, it’s up and down.”
Hume’s production keeps the energy aggressive and urgent. Owusu’s delivery shifts between melodic hooks and rapid-fire verses, maintaining tension throughout. The title phrase “death cult zombie” repeats as both warning and accusation, pointing at those who’ve surrendered critical thinking to authoritarian figures.
Following his acclaimed albums “Smiling with No Teeth” and “STRUGGLER”, Owusu never been subtle about his politics, and “DEATH CULT ZOMBIE” doubles down on that directness.
